Rangiwaea School opened for instruction in 1905 under the name of ‘Owhakura School’. After the second World War two other schools closed and in 1975, Owhakura School was renamed Rangiwaea School to reflect its heritage and association with the wider Rangiwaea district. The name ‘Rangiwaea’ means watery blue sky.
In 2005, Rangiwaea School celebrated its centenary. We welcomed back many people from past and present to celebrate the history of a school which has educated so many children over the years.
